September is Blood Cancer Awareness month…. How much do you know about these cancers and their impact?  Learn some basics, and then join our upcoming conversation about how you can support families fighting blood cancers…..
  • There are three main types of  blood cancers - leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma.
  • Every 3 minutes, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with a blood cancer. 
  • Blood cancers will account for 10% of all new cancer diagnoses in the U.S. this year - more than 176,000 people.
  • In CT, more than 2,110 people are estimated to be diagnosed with a blood cancer in 2019….670 will be diagnosed with leukemia; 1,060 with lymphoma; and 380 with myeloma.
  • Approximately 1.4 million people in the U.S. are living with, or in remission from, a blood cancer.
  • Blood cancers - including leukemia - are much more prevalent in adults than children.
